Compression cannot correct an unsuitable photo. Poor lighting, a cropped head, strong shadows or an incorrect background may cause rejection even when the file size is perfect.
Confirm the photo specification first
Check the required file format, maximum size, pixel dimensions, aspect ratio and background. Some portals accept any image below 50KB; others specify a narrow size range or exact width and height. Follow those published rules over general advice.

Prepare a clean portrait source
Use even lighting, a plain permitted background and a sharply focused original. Remove unnecessary surrounding canvas if it can be done without violating head-position rules. Noise, shadows and patterned backgrounds require more compression data and can reduce facial clarity.
Do not begin from a social-media copy or messaging-app thumbnail. Those versions may already have softened eyes, hair and edges before you apply the 50KB limit.
Compress with a small safety margin
JPG is normally the most compatible format for a photographic portrait. Target slightly below the stated maximum if the portal is known to be strict, then download the result and confirm its real file size.

Complete a final upload check
Use a simple filename, keep the correct extension and open the downloaded file once before submitting. Confirm that orientation is correct and no transparency or unexpected border was introduced.
If the application still refuses the image, file size may not be the cause. Work through the post-compression rejection checklist before lowering quality again.
