What local processing means

Modern browsers can decode an image, resize its pixels and create a compressed file using code running on your own device. The browser reads the image only after you select it, performs the transformation in memory and creates a download for you.

Because the processing does not require a file upload, the image content does not need to be stored on a compression server. This can also make the workflow faster because a large original does not travel across the network.

Local processing is not the same as total anonymity

A website may still receive ordinary connection information such as the page request, just as other websites do. Local image processing specifically describes how the selected image file is handled; it does not mean that all general web activity is invisible.
